20-Hour Service

Break-In Service

Purpose: This is the initial service performed after engine break-in. It ensures all components are settling properly and removes early wear contaminants.

Key Tasks:

  • Change engine oil and oil filter (4-stroke models)
  • Inspect gearcase lubricant; replace if needed
  • Check and retorque critical fasteners (powerhead, mounting bolts)
  • Inspect propeller, remove and grease prop shaft
  • Check fuel system for leaks or loose connections
  • Inspect spark plugs for proper burn pattern
  • Verify throttle and shift operation
  • Inspect cooling system (water pump output, telltale flow)
  • Check battery connections and charging system
  • Scan engine for fault codes (if applicable)

Outcome: Confirms engine health after break-in and establishes a clean baseline for ongoing maintenance.

100-Hour Service

Every 100 Hours or Annual Maintenance

Purpose: Routine maintenance to ensure reliability, performance, and longevity. Typically done annually or every 100 operating hours, whichever comes first.

Key Tasks:

  • Change engine oil and oil filter
  • Replace gearcase lubricant
  • Replace fuel filters (engine-mounted and inline)
  • Inspect and/or replace spark plugs if required
  • Inspect and grease all lubrication points
  • Check and service propeller (remove, inspect, grease shaft)
  • Inspect water pump and cooling system performance
  • Check belts (if applicable)
  • Inspect anodes (replace if worn)
  • Inspect electrical system and battery condition
  • Check steering system and controls
  • Run engine diagnostics (fault codes, sensor checks)
  • Inspect fuel lines and primer bulb for deterioration (if required)

Outcome: Maintains peak performance and prevents common failures due to wear, contamination, or corrosion.

300-Hour Service

Major Service

Purpose: A more in-depth service targeting critical wear components and systems to prevent major failures.

Key Tasks:

  • All 100-hour service items, plus:
  • Replace water pump impeller and inspect housing
  • Replace thermostats
  • Inspect and clean fuel injectors (or service carburetors)
  • Inspect timing components and ignition system
  • Perform compression check (engine health verification)
  • Inspect engine mounts and structural components
  • Replace spark plugs (if not done earlier)
  • Inspect exhaust system for corrosion or blockage
  • Check and adjust valve clearances (if applicable)
  • Thorough inspection of wiring harnesses and connectors
  • Inspect and service trim/tilt system
  • Flush and clean cooling passages if needed

Outcome: Extends engine life, reduces risk of unexpected breakdowns, and ensures the engine remains reliable under heavy use.
