Winterization
Winterization is not optional — it is one of the most important services you can invest in as a boat owner. Water expands when it freezes, and any water left in your engine's cooling passages, exhaust system, bilge, or plumbing can cause catastrophic damage over a Northwestern Ontario winter. A cracked engine block, a burst hose, a seized lower unit — these are the kinds of repairs that cost thousands of dollars and sideline your boat for an entire season. Proper winterization prevents all of that.
It is far less expensive to winterize correctly than to repair the damage caused by skipping it.
At Nestor Falls Marine & Sports, our certified technicians perform a complete winterization that covers every system on your boat. We begin with a full engine flush using fresh water to remove salt, sediment, and debris from the cooling system, followed by fogging the engine with protective oil to coat internal components and prevent corrosion during storage.
The fuel system is stabilized with a quality fuel treatment to prevent degradation and varnish buildup in the carburetor or fuel injection system over the winter months. The lower unit gear lube is drained, inspected for water contamination, and replaced with fresh lubricant. The battery is inspected, load tested, and either charged and stored properly or replaced if it is no longer holding a reliable charge. All grease fittings, cables, and steering components are lubricated to prevent seizing over the winter. We also inspect the hull, bilge, and through-hulls, drain all remaining water from the bilge and live wells, and conduct a full visual inspection of the boat before it goes into storage.
Nestor Falls Marine & Sports has been winterizing boats for customers across Lake of the Woods, Nestor Falls, Sioux Narrows, and Northwestern Ontario for nearly 50 years. As a Certified Mercury Sales and Service Center, our technicians are factory trained and experienced with all major outboard brands including Mercury, Evinrude, E-TEC, and Johnson — as well as all other outboard makes and models. We also offer shrink wrapping as an add-on to your winterization service, providing an additional layer of protection against moisture, UV exposure, and weather damage during the long storage season.
