Battery Replacement

Marine batteries are not all created equal, and choosing the right replacement battery for your boat is more important than many boat owners realize. There are three primary battery types used on boats — starting batteries, deep cycle batteries, and dual-purpose batteries — and each is designed for a fundamentally different role. A starting battery is optimized to deliver a large burst of current for a short period to crank your engine, but it is not designed to be deeply discharged and recharged repeatedly. A deep cycle battery is built to be discharged slowly and recharged many times, making it ideal for powering electronics, trolling motors, and accessories over extended periods. A dual-purpose battery attempts to balance both functions and is a practical choice for smaller boats with simpler electrical systems. Installing the wrong battery type for your application results in premature failure, reduced performance, and in some cases, damage to your electrical system.

At Nestor Falls Marine & Sports, our battery replacement process begins with a professional load test of your existing battery to determine its true condition. A battery that appears to hold a surface charge can still fail under load — and a load test is the only reliable way to know whether a battery has the cranking amps and reserve capacity your boat actually needs. If the test confirms that your battery is no longer performing to the standard your boat requires, we will recommend the correct replacement based on your engine's cold cranking amp requirements, your accessory load, your charging system, and how you use your boat on Lake of the Woods. We stock a full range of marine batteries and can source specialty batteries for boats with higher demands or multiple battery bank configurations.
